Frax Cloud
Watch Frax in actionThe Frax Cloud is the online counterpart of the Frax app. The cloud provides access to the Frax Render Farm, which is used to create high resolution images from your Frax presets at a much higher quality and size than is possible from within the app.
The Frax Cloud also provides a way for Pro users to share and download new presets and have their images featured in the gallery.
Creating an Account
All users of the app can create a Frax Cloud account for free.
- Tap the Save & Share button (top right corner)
- Tap the High Resolution Cloud Render icon to connect to the Frax Cloud
- Follow the login/sign-up link and then tap the Sign-up for free link
- Enter your email address, a Frax user name, and password
On successfully signing up you will receive a welcome email.
You will also get 5 free render credits to try out the high resolution rendering!
Note: the email address must be valid otherwise you won't receive the download links sent out once your high resolution renders are ready.
You can login using your same Frax Cloud details on other devices running Frax or Frax HD.
High Resolution Rendering
High resolution rendering is where you can really appreciate the beauty of Frax!
We have a 'render farm' of powerful machines running a special version of the Frax render engine. This server based rendering allows us to really crank up the quality and resolution, which just isn't feasible on the iPhone or iPad.
Cloud rendering uses 81x super sampling so that even the smallest details are smooth and clear, ideal for printing and final artwork.
- Prepare the Frax image you want to render at high resolution
- Tap the Save & Share button (top right corner)
- Tap the High Resolution Cloud Render icon to connect to the Frax Cloud
- If you are already logged in then you will see three rendering options (listed below) and the number of credits in your account
- Tap the button for the resolution of image you want
- After a few minutes check your email for a link to the final image
Megapixels | Pixel dimensions | Credits | |
---|---|---|---|
Medium res. | 3.1 Mpx | 2048x1536 | 1 credit |
High res. | 12.6 Mpx | 4096x3072 | 4 credits |
Ultra res. (Frax Pro only) | 50.3 Mpx | 8192x6144 | 8 credits |
Note: depending on demand it can take 10-20 minutes for the high resolution images to render (and around 30 minutes for the ultra res.)
The email you receive will also include links to your previous 4 images as a handy reference. We do store the renders indefinitely on our servers, but you should also save your own local copy.
Differences between interactive and cloud renders
The interactive renderer you see when you play with Frax is an approximation of the final fractal and doesn't show the fine details with the same clarity as a high resolution cloud render. Because of this the two versions of the image can differ slightly.
It is a good idea to first try the medium resolution cloud render to make sure you are happy with the final result before trying the high or ultra resolution versions.
Buying more render credits
Your account will start with 5 free credits. To get more just scroll down on the high resolution render page and tap the button for the number of credits your want. Then follow the prompts to complete the in-app-purchase with Apple.
